Carmine Appice

Born: December 15, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York

Carmine Appice has long been a formidable presence in the world of rock’n’roll. Through his indelible work with Vanilla Fudge, Cactus, Rod Stewart, Ted Nugent, King Kobra, power trio Beck, Bogert & Appice, and many, many others, Carmine’s thunderous groove has pounded its way into our collective consciousness. He’s also the creator of Realistic Rock, one of the most successful drum instructional books of all time.

Coming of age in New York City in the late ’50s and early ’60s, Carmine was in the unique position of watching the rock revolution unfold before his eyes. The following interview offers us his impressions of those early years, and highlights the role they played in shaping the career of one of rock’s most admired elder statesmen.
